Cheap Pharmaceuticals: Who will pay the price?

The recent fiasco in Pakistan where free heart medicines caused the death of over 100 heart patients has been dominating the news these days. According to reports, the deaths were caused by the suspected failure of a drug (generic name IsosorbiteMononitrate), prescribed to patients suffering from heart ailments such as angina. A common prescription that is sold under several brand names, this drug acts by dilating the blood vessels in order to relieve blood pressure.
