Marine Biologist, Dr. Rekha Maldeniya (Former Head of Marine Biology for NARA) speaks on Resources and Modalities for Dredging Research, which are aspects of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Colombo Port City Project.
Sites 1 and 2 were identified for dredging and NARA was given the task of observing the environmental impact dredging would have in these areas. She speaks of how they monitored fishing areas by closely inspecting the fishing grounds and going out with the fishermen to record times and locations, the quantity of the catch and how it changes over time etc.
